QUICK SMART™ Geography of the United States

Grades 3–8
Geo-literarcy an affordable price!

The 2010 Nation’s Report Card reveals that only 25% of students in the United States perform at or above the proficient level in geography. At grades 4 and 8, there was virtually no change from the last assessment in 2001. At grade 12, the percentage of students at or above the proficient level was lower than all previous assessments dating back to 1994.  In 2014, National Geographic reported that ” 50% of young Americans cannot identify New York on a map.”

Geo-literacy is fundamental to all of our interactions in the daily world. Unlike other content areas supported by NCLB, geography has never received  dedicated federal funding or support. The National Geographic Education Foundation and other groups have been advocating for passage of the “TGIF” initiative (Teaching Geography is Fundamental)  in order to make up for the shortfalls of current geographic instruction.  Still, this key content area remains essentially ignored as part of a core curriculum.

The QUICK SMART™ Geography Series addresses the shortfalls of geo-literacy in most curriculum frameworks. These highly-researched and informative books feature inquiry-based strategies for developing the critical thinking, logical reasoning, and writing skills necessary for mastery of geographic concepts.

Each book in the QUICK SMART™ Geography of the United States Series includes —

  • a glossary with expanded definitions that provide context for essential terms
  • inquiry-based independent investigations, practice with map reading and comparing various types of maps
  • practice with key components of the CCSS Technical and Language Arts standards

Students will discover that the QUICK SMART™ Geography Series is an essential reference for years to come.
