Each book in The Parts of Speech Series is comprised of six parts.

Part 1: Guided Lessons
Scaffolded instruction allows students to develop a comprehensive understanding of key concepts as they work through each lesson. The activities in each lesson build upon
concepts in previous lessons, so that students acquire new skills while reinforcing those they have already practiced.

Part 2: Directed Review Activities
Students review the concepts of the Guided Lessons in a more structured, less exploratory approach. Students discover their strengths as they build skill awareness.

Part 3: Final Review
Students complete a two-page review of the key concepts practiced and acquired.

Part 4: Optional Pretest and Post Test
The data provided by the Pretest reveals a student’s strengths and weaknesses, while the Post Test reveals progress and mastery. This information is particularly useful when implementing differentiated or learner-centered instruction.

Part 5: Answer Key
All answers are provided in an Answer Key at the back of each resource book. Suggestions for open-ended responses are also provided.

Part 6: Quick Check
Quick Check is a student resource that summarizes the key characteristics unique to each part of speech. Students are encouraged to keep the Quick Check resource near-at-hand while working across the curriculum. Students will find this resource valuable for completing reading assignments, writing reports, and self-editing.
